Question #153 Science Fiction

Here's a question-- inspired by Devin-- that Phil & I discussed in the soon-to-be-released A Very Serious Conversation #19:

What science fiction movie has the most accurate vision of the future (examples: Robocop, The Terminator, Blade Runner, Road Warrior)?

BONUS: Which vision of the future are you most looking forward to?

Escape From New York is obviously the most accurate vision of the future. But secretly I'm looking forward to a future that is like Waterworld, not because I want to be chased by evil monster pirates on Jet Ski's but because I want to see the evolution of man to man-fish with gills, like Costner's character, who can swim like Mario with the frog suit in super mario 3.

Idiocracy. This movie scared the shit out of me. Dudes with Carl's Junior tattoos on their necks; advertisements on every possible surface. It's super campy. But nightmarishly probable.

Children of Men seems like a totally realistic future portrayal, too.

I think the version of the future I wish I could wake up in is The Fifth Element world. That movie had a lot of cool shit.

I was going to have to go with Idiocracy as well. Unfortunately people who are intelligent don't seem to be the bulk of peeps breeding, so I can only see bad stuff happening.

Um, A Boy and His Dog?

I am hoping for something more like Smokey & The Bandit.

I feel like Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome might as well be a historical document from the future and I think all ladies should buy those earrings like Tina Turner wears in the movie, also we will all get to wear clothes like this as we kill each other for water and gasoline.

What I would like more is something along the lines of Back to the Future II, suburban California but with flying cars.

I want it to be like The Princess Bride (OMG,TMFM!) or The Dark Crystal but it will probably be like a cross between Ice Pirates and Handmaiden's Tale

Trancers III. But I wish things would turn out more like "Waist Watchers," but that's not SciFi.

Land of the Dead. Only instead of zombies, it's crackheads/junkies/bums.

Something between that and THX 1138.

Is "The Secret of Nimh" sci-fi? I'm not clairvoyant yet so I don't know which movie is the most accurate.

If we're suspending disbelief then I believe zombies will be much faster in the future, because old zombie movies depict the undead as very slow, but contemporary zombie movies show them running and jumping and even flying, I think. This makes sense to me. Flying zombies are the future.

Sarah, the future may be quite similar to Waterworld because of global warming and the fact that the only thing we will save from our past will be jet ski's and bad asexual haircuts.

Fahrenheit 451 was the first thing to come to mind. I heard they're making a new movie for it, due out in 2008.

I can't think of any other futuristic movies right now.

Lets get real for a second here, Y'all know its running man! I mean everyone loves reality TV and its only getting bigger, pretty soon we will have shows that let 80 year old women bet on whos going to kill thebutcher of bakersfield.
"what happened to buzsaw?" "he had to split!"
