I like a Buffalo Creek Song called Firecracker that says, " we lit the strand, I never ran, just watched it blow up in my hand. Its such a firecracker", as I think, it sums up love catching you unaware.
And as far as just awesome love lyrics inspite of their sadness... I love lyrics from a B&S song that says "loving is a mess..What happened to all of those feelings? I thought it was for real: babies, rings, and fools kneeling, and words of pledging trust and lifetimes stretching forever. So, what went wrong? It was a lie.It crumbled apart. Those figures of past , present, future haunting the heart"
or something like that.

Stephen Malkmus is a lyrical genius on love's horribleness:

"I've been thinking for days about the means and the ways that I could Hate all I touch
I know you're my lady but I could trickle, I could flood
A voice coach taught me to sing, he couldn't teach me to love
All the above."

But then he grew up, softened up and wrote songs like Malediction which is equally great.

I feel a little emo right now. Good question, though.

I really like the lyrics I find it very, very easy to be true from Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line" for their simplicity.

I've often cited "He Stopped Loving Her Today" by George Jones as the greatest love song, but you have to listen to the whole thing to really get it.

I think it was the great 80's lyrical pioneer, Big Daddy Kane, who said it best. "I don't love ya and leave ya, I please ya and then catch amnesia."

"I've got a preachers mouth and a rock 'n roll heart."

I know it's cheesy but Death Cab...

"Love of mine some day you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark"

"I know the tears we cried
Have dried on yesterday
The sea of fools has parted for us
Theres nothing in our way...
My love"

May i just go ahead and copy all of the lyrics? I think yeah:

You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go- Bob Dylan

"I've seen love go by my door
It's never been this close before
Never been so easy or so slow.
Been shooting in the dark too long
When somethin's not right it's wrong
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Dragon clouds so high above
I've only known careless love,
It's always hit me from below.
This time around it's more correct
Right on target, so direct,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Purple clover, Queen Anne lace,
Crimson hair across your face,
You could make me cry if you don't know.
Can't remember what I was thinkin' of
You might be spoilin' me too much, love,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Flowers on the hillside, bloomin' crazy,
Crickets talkin' back and forth in rhyme,
Blue river runnin' slow and lazy,
I could stay with you forever
And never realize the time.

Situations have ended sad,
Relationships have all been bad.
Mine've been like Verlaine's and Rimbaud.
But there's no way I can compare
All those scenes to this affair,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Yer gonna make me wonder what I'm doin',
Stayin' far behind without you.
Yer gonna make me wonder what I'm sayin',
Yer gonna make me give myself a good talkin' to.

I'll look for you in old Honolulu,
San Francisco, Ashtabula,
Yer gonna have to leave me now, I know.
But I'll see you in the sky above,
In the tall grass, in the ones I love,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go."

the whole damn song is just so damn good. damn.

"They might say love is only trouble
We're both too drunk to steer it
We may never be angels
But we're lousy with the spirit"
- Constantines

"Some girls are bigger than others"
- The Smiths

You can't resist her
She's in your bones
She is your marrow
And your ride home
You can't avoid her
She's in the air
In between molecules
Of oxygen and carbon dioxide

I echo the sentiments about Cohen...

"Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair, she broke your throne
she cut your hair and from your lips she drew the halleujah"
-Leonard Cohen

Also, speaking of that song... some Buckley...

Basically, the entire song of "Lover You Should Have Come Over."

But specifically...

"Well I feel too young to hold on
And i'm much too old to break free and run
Too deaf, dumb, and blind to see the damage i've done
Sweet lover, you should've come over
Oh, love well i'm waiting for you"

The lyrics to:
"My Winding Wheel" by Ryan Adams

and, well, pretty much most of the songs on Heartbreaker.

leonard cohen's song about his affair with janis joplin...chelsea hotel #2

and clenching our fists
for the ones like us who are oppressed by the figures of beauty
you fixed yourself
you said "well nevermind
we are ugly but we have the music"

hadas said...

shit, man..everyone else already said leonard cohen!!

well then, perhaps kurupt summed it up best;;;" if i gave a fuck about a bitch i'd always be broke, i'd never have no nmother fucking indo to smoke"

Maybe 1/2 of all lyrics are about love, more if you count love for Jesus. I like the real simple stuff when it comes to love lyrics so I will go with the words to A Lover's Concerto by the Toys. If you asked me on another day I'd say something different though.

Herbert Groenemeyer: Der Weg
(Dedicated to his wife which died of cancer)
I can no longer see
Don't believe my eyes any more
Can hardly believe
Feelings all turned around

I'm much too lazy to give up
Besides it would be too soon
Because there's always a way

We were bound together
Would have died for each other
Bent the rain into a bow1
Lent each other our trust

We tried to turn while schussing
Nothing was too late
But much was too soon

We have shoved each other
Through all the tides
We got sidetracked together
Loved desperately

We denied the truth
The best we could
It was a piece of heaven
That you exist

Every room you
Flooded with sun
Every frustration
You turned around

Nordic noble
Your gentle goodness
Your untamed pride
Life isn't fair

Danced the movie
In a silver room
From a golden balcony
We stood in awe of eternity

Helplessly sunken, drunken
And everything was allowed
Together in time-lapse
Midsummer-Night's Dream

Every room you
Flooded with sun
Every frustration
You turned around

Nordic noble
Your gentle goodness
Your untamed pride
Life isn't fair

Your confident stride
Your true poetry
Your serene dignity
Your unshakeable grace

Your destiny
You defied
You never betrayed
Your plan for happiness
Your plan for happiness

I'm not leaving here
I've extended my stay
New time travel
Open world

I have you safe
Inside my soul
I'll carry you with me
Until the curtain falls

I'll carry you with me
Until the curtain falls

The Smiths have so many simple, perfect lyrics about love:

"And everything depends upon
how near you stand to me" - Hand in Glove.

"I dreamt about you last night, and I fell out of bed twice. You can pin and mount me like a butterfly." -Reel Around the Fountain

"And if a double-decker bus crashes into us, to die by your side is such a heavenly way to die" - There is a Light That Never Goes Out
