Question #192 What You Are
In this world with its varied peoples and cultures it may be surprising to learn the following fact: Everyone falls into, at his or her core being, one of two categories.
Today's question: Are you hip-hop or are you R&B*?
*Today's question inspired by an interviewer of Bill Bellamy who asked him this question hella years ago. His answer was along the lines of "I'll admit that I am an R&B brother but I dare you to find anyone on TV who is more hip-hop than me." Clearly this wasn't during the era of the Meth and Redman sitcom.

I'm going to be tres lame and opt for Old-Timey-Jazz.
Anyone who knows me, can attest that I cannot claim to be either of the two categories mentioned in the question.
I can't even tell you their differences, except for a sneaking suspicion that R&B came earlier in the history of music. Of that, even, I am unsure.
I've determined tiffany! to be hip-hop.
I'd have to say that I'm hip-hop, but smoothed out on the R&B tip (and with a pop appeal, feel to it).
I am R&B to the utmost degree.
No doubt about it. I am hip-hop to the core. Fuck what Nas said. Hip-hop ain't gonna die.
Thanks, Jake! I can now die happy with the knowledge of my hip-hoppiness:)
i just created a radio station on Pandora based on Montell Jordan, so i can not claim hip hop even though i'd like to think im a Thizz or Die kind of girl...
R&B. Hip-Hop died when NWA's first video was played on Yo! MTV Raps.
I normally would say that I was "hip hop" but then I remember the last time I was out dancing and how stoked I was when misc R&B jams started playing.
I think my answer has to be R&B. I turned the corner with the release of "Contagious".
Of the two i am mos def hip hop...
Its probably because i talk shit and drink alot...
"Is that really a question?
Do you really have that written down in your notepad?
You should be ashamed of yourself
You smell me girl
I smell like money"
hip hop.
I'd have to say R&B given that I still own some cassettes by Keith Sweat and Al B. Sure.
i would sooner turn to a hip hop radio station than an r&b radio station. i would sooner turn to a hip hop music video than an r&b music video. so i guess hip hop. i wanna see people do the soulja boy dance!
better yet . . . i think we should see a soulja boy dance-off between phil and jake! who do you think can crank it the best?

if i was asked this question ten years ago, i would have been disgusted by the implications. luckily, i'm slightly more mature and i can say that i am definitely hip-hop. i do savor a little argh and bee, but that's just my sensitive hip-hop side.
Sometimes, I listen to Wu-Tang Clan while I enter my weekly receipts into an Excel spreadsheet to track my day-to-day spending.
Other times, I listen to Raekwon The Chef "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx" when I reorganize my kitchen cupboards.
A lot of times, I will perform SWV's "Right Here" at karaoke.
This makes me neither hip-hop nor R&B, just painfully, tragically, utmost-nerdily white.
Phil's claim to be R&B is demonstrably false. His favorite song is 69 Boyz -- "Tootsie Roll."
perfect question to start on. put it this way, I wore gold teeth and rapped in the mirror while I got dressed for work today. so hip hop it is
I guess I must be hip-hop. I once took a hip-hop class and learned a dance to "Bootylicious".
I am whatever Missy Elliot is, because I love her.
