Question #232 Riverboat

Inspiration for this question comes from today's Very Serious Picture entry (pic.veryserious.org), posted by Phil.

Have you ever been on a riverboat? If so, when and where? If not, what are you going to do to rectify the problem?

I've ridden on the Mississippi on a riverboat once (way up in Minnesota), and on the Ohio (in Cleveland) another time. Neither ride was more than a couple hours in length; we just went down the river for a while, then turned around and came back up.

I've also been on a casino "riverboat", on the Mississippi in St. Louis. These things are only boats in the sense that they're built above water.

I did like Jake and went on one of those gambling riverboats that never goes anywhere in Buenos Aires, everyon on the boat smoked the whole time and the roulette wheel didn't work right, so I lost my money.

I have been on ferries that cross rivers, I don't know if that counts though.

If tying a couple of 2x4's together and sitting on them in the middle of a creek going nowhere counts, then yes.

Just like the kind gentleman above me, my riverboat experience is limited to the Delta King. My Senior formal (in college) was on the riverboat in Sacramento that is now a floating, but stationary, hotel.

(Yes, we had formal dances at my university. Yes, I attended. Enthusiastically.)

I've been on Steamboat Natchez a couple times for little two hours deals up and down the Mississippi.

A while ago I was cajoled into taking the American Queen riverboat from Memphis to New Orleans. Was a six night deal... stopped at some cool Southern port cities. It was semi themed so they had actors playing southern belles etc. Fairly uneventful and kind of corny, unless you're into the American South.

Being a Stockton lass, I'm still bitter about the Delta Queen leaving our port again (The Delta King and Queen were built in Stockton). And because I was a wee bairn when she left, I'm not sure that I ever went on the riverboat.
I had a prom on the Klamath Ferry (which isn't a riverboat, but its steam engine is pretty rad).
Oh! Just remembered I have 100% been on a riverboat. It's a classy joint called Moore's Riverboat. It is also filled with equally classy people out for classy times on the delta waterways. It's where you went when the band at Windmill Cove's taco tuesday wasn't people you knew.Oh, but come to think of it... I don't think it exists as a boat anymore, and is now just a restaurant with the same name. Beth probably knows the answer.

I've been on the Mark Twain Riverboat ride at Disneyland; does that count?

Otherwise, I didn't even know riverboats still existed.

Man, riverboats SUCK! I never want to go on one. Ever. That's like aking me whether I want to go down some dirty ass river on a heap of trash that has a funny feature: a huge wheel. Why? Progress! Always!

i've most likely been on a river boat solely based on my white trashy heritage, although i can't remember if i have. to rectify this, i'm going to go on a gambling river boat when i go to a conference in new orleans next month (i hope there are gambling boats, unlike the gambling train).
