My favorite sandwich contains a breaded and fried chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, and brown gravy on a toasted hero. It's called the "Chicken Style" and they sell it at Gracefully on Avenue A for $6.

It is very large and literally heavy so I limit myself to one every six months or so.

The chicken pita from King of Falafel and Shawarma at 30th Street and Broadway in Astoria Queens, NY. I am not the only one, they won a local award for best street vendor.

The sandwich is grilled chicken spiced with turmeric, peppers, onions and some other spices I can't indentify. It usually makes my nose run.

If you find yourself in Queens or even if you have a long layover at Laguardia, you should do yourself a favor and buy this sandwich.

The runner-up is the tuna and potato chip pressed sandwich that Victor and I made two years ago.

Its kind of lame I guess but I think my current favorite "little sammy" is the tuna sandwich at 'wichcraft. The tuna mix doesn't have any/much mayo but it is still good. It kind of defines what 'savory' should mean. The ultra-thin slices of lemon on it are also rad. I also enjoy their cookies. I don't enjoy going to a place named 'wichcraft however.

My favorite historical sandwich was the pulled pork sandwich from Cole's Barbecue in Santa Cruz. I only had it once and went veg soon after. When I think about going back to the meat i inevitably think about this sandwich, The Whopper with cheese, and pepperoni pizza (not necessarily in that order).

Oh also, close runner's up in the "historical sandwich" category are: provolone and salami from Stevenson coffee shop and smoked turkey from Main Street Deli.

Probably the veggie reuben at Ellie's Mutt Hut in Ukiah. It's just like a reuben, but with sauteed tofu instead of pastrami. The key is that it-- like any reuben-- has a good amount of sauerkraut on it, and I'm totally nuts about sauerkraut.

I think sauerkraut is also totally nuts about me, for what it's worth.

My all time favorite was from a hippie sandwich shop in San Diego. You first chose the base, tempeh, or tofu then an array of vegetables were added such as carrots, cucumbers, spinich, avocado etc... I don't even remember that was like 10 years ago. But I remember it was amazing.

In San Francisco I like the tuna sandwich at St. Francis with avocado and lettuce, simple and delicious.

If I want meat I may indulge in the pre made salami and butter on a baguette from La Boulange Bakery. I know salami and butter, pretty ridiculous but it must be done once and a while. And it's cheap, fast, and there are like 4 or 5 of these bakeries around sf, so quite accessible.

The best sandwhich I ever had was a chicken and hummus on a bagel in this weird shop in Dublin, Ireland in 1998.

The bagel wasn't too "tall, so your bite didn't have to be too big. It was plain and toasted. Then they put on some sliced grilled chicken and then slathered it with this delicious hummus. It was super creamy and probably in true Irish style they had mayo in it or something.

I was so dead broke that it was a few days tips to get it and I only had it a handful of times before I came home. Last time I went, in 02, the shop had closed.

my fav sammy is the one i used to make at dharma's when i worked there. it was a vegetables finely chopped and grilled with liquid aminos mixed into a small amount of mashed potatoes along with fakin' bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado and a little mustard served on a french roll. it was twelve inches of heaven.

recently, since i'm back on the meat wagon, salami and anything have been my favorites. i keep going to stevenson coffee house to have this alleged "best" salami sandwich but they are always out of salami. bastards.

Mmmmmm Veggie Grill. They are in Irvine and it is the only reason I will ever venture out to Orange County.

Sante Fe Crispy Chickin’
Crispy fried chillin’ chickin’, lettuce, tomato,
red onion, avocado, southwestern spiced vegan mayo.

It also comes with sweet potato fries and has the best vegan ranch ever. I'm starving right now and this isn't helping.
