What is the eventual fate of the universe? Will its mass eventually pull it back in on in itself in a fiery collision, or will it expand forever until everything is cold and distant?

uhm, well as a physics major recent research suggests that it will keep expanding forever...but really, who knows. it would be cool if it exploded again...and all of life repeated over and over agian
i thought it was expanding in some places and contracting in others. is the net result expansion? (nto a physics major.. barely remember physics from high school.)
