Question #1 N.W.A./Geto Boys

You find yourself in a situation where you must push one of two buttons:

The first button will erase from history the Geto Boys (Bushwick Bill, Mr. Scarface, Willie D). They will never have existed. You will lose all memory of their existence. It will be as if none of them were ever born.

The second button will do the same to the members of N.W.A (Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren, Yella, Eazy-E). They will never have existed. You will lose all memory of their existence. It will be as if none of them ever existed.

Which button do you press, and why? Is this murder or not?

ryan, this is an incredibly important question. it's asking who is more influential, the GB's or the NWA's.

also, phil, what happened to the actual button? can people not have the simplicity of clicking yes or no and leave a comment?

also, can i push both buttons?

according to phil, i can't push both buttons.

i have to go with the GBs. mainly because i was defeated by 2 Live Crew for the use of unnecessarily violent and graphic lyrics. the 2LCs made me not like rap until snoop dogg came out in the nineties to lay the platinum record road for previous haters of rap (like myself) to come out of the closet. clearly, the GBs had an influence on rap, but not to the extent of the NWAs, which eventually led to my liking of the genre.

also, if Easy E was never born, he would never have died of AIDS and i would have one less AIDS victim to make fun of.

I think after long and careful thought I would have to choose to erase The Geto Boys from the history books. It's not a decision I take lightly, I would do it with a heavy heart.

The effects of N.W.A. are far reaching. There would be no World Class Wreckin' Cru, no Michel'le, maybe no rap explosion in the 90s, probably no Snoop Doggy Dogg, D.O.C. or Eminem (who got their start though Dr. Dre).

It's conceivable that we never would have heard Bone Thugs N Harmony either, since they were discovered by Eazy-E.

That's not even taking into consideration the loss of Ice Cube's music, the first Friday movie (and with it Chris Tucker).

Even if I like the Geto Boys' music much more than any N.W.A. songs, they have the bigger legacy and their loss would make the world a poorer place.

sorry I spelled "ambivalent" wrong.

i think i would have to press the first button. geto boys are cool and all, but i would have to say that n.w.a. are a lot more influential. granted ice cube is kind of a sellout and is in movies like 'are we there yet'. eazy-e, on the other hand, is definitely o.g. and went out like a gangsta.

Well, if it wasn't for N.W.A, the world would never have Fomula 50. The 50 cent vitamin water.

So I choose to click on the N.W.A switch.

Andy, it is conceivable that 50 cent could have made himself popular through some other means even if there was no N.W.A. In fact it's conceivable that rap music could have been better without N.W.A. intensely negative imagery.

Tarita, why don't you think it's murder? I'm not sure if it is or not, that's why i asked.

N.W.A. were so much more seminal. I'd kill the Geto Boys, and YES it's murder, and I'd fucking do it again if I had to.

phil, you're a punk for pushing the geto boys button. are you running for public office or something? i understand that it's the popular button to push but i don't believe that's how you really feel, at least i hope it's not.

California or Texas? Hmm.
